Conference Title: -The
Experimental Basis for Reich's Understanding of Cancer
A
Laboratory Course at The Wilhelm Reich Museum July 14-18, 2003
Conference Sponsor: -The Wilhelm Reich Museum-
Where: Rangeley Maine
Description: -short description title here-
"Call me whatever you like, but look into the microscope." - Wilhelm Reich
The laboratory course at Orgonon will focus on the microscopic work that led to Reich¹s discovery of the bionous nature of living matter and its significance for an understanding and treatment of cancer.
Instructors will introduce participants to the historical context and evolution of Reich's experiments and help them to gain an understanding of the light microscope and Reich's use of and observations through this instrument.
Each day will include lectures, hands-on laboratory work, an optional open laboratory period in the afternoon, and evening presentations of Reich's own films on bions and living cancer cells.
The course provides the opportunity for participants to examine preparations described in Reich's books The Bion Experiments and The Cancer Biopathy through research-quality optics. The Reich Blood Test will be explained and performed and, if it is possible to obtain a specimen, living cancer tissue will be examined.
Short lectures will provide an introduction to light microscopy and Reich's bion work, evidence for the bions' biological character, the discovery of the natural organization of protozoa, cancer as a consequence of bionous breakdown in the living organism, and experimental treatments of cancer based on Reich's energetic model. In addition, laboratory notes of Dr. Sol Kramer, a biologist who took part in Reich's cancer course at Orgonon in 1950, will be reviewed.
Neither a scientific background, nor biological training, is necessary for participation in this course. Ample opportunity will be given for questions and answers.

Grier Sellers, M.S. is a college biology instructor. He has conducted research on endosymbiosis in protists, and has a longstanding interest in Reich's bion experiments and their evolutionary implications.
James Strick, Ph.D. is a science historian, specializing in the history of ideas about the origin of life. He has authored a book on Darwinism and the Victorian debates over spontaneous generation entitled Sparks of Life.
